Every day, I have the same thing for lunch. (Well, almost the same thing. The main part is different, but this is my website, ok? I’ll do what I want.)
The night before, I’ll pack up whatever it is I’m having, Lean Cuisine, a salad, what have you, and the following: one red Baby Bell cheese (it HAS to be red, because the other ones taste terrible), a 1/4 cup of trail mix (it HAS to be almonds, walnuts, raisins, and cashews, unsalted), and seven (10 if I’m feeling hungry) Triscuits. I’ve gone back and forth about the Triscuit flavor, but my all-time favorite is the black pepper and olive oil.
Well today, my friends, I forgot an important ingredient to my lunchtime ritual. I forgot the Triscuits.
How could this have happened? Tuesday, I brought the bag. I like to finish it off in the bag when I’ve only got a serving left, because then I don’t have to get any dishes dirty. So instead of taking out my usual Tupperware and refilling them at the end of the day, I had no tupperware out to refill. So I just went about my packing, leaving out the most essential ingredient to my mid-day sustenance.
Now, sadly, my day is ruined. Not ruined in the way, say, getting hit in the head by a baseball would ruin it, or a bad case of the runs, but everything’s going to be just a little…off. I’ll be more hungry in the afternoon since I won’t have had my carb boost. I’ll be missing the salty, peppery goodness that lingers in my mouth through eating my salad. It just won’t feel right!
So what do I do now? How do I rectify this tragedy?
I’m afraid it can’t be done. Not until tonight when I have the chance to right my wrongs and pack my lunch the way it was, is, and always will be. By then it will be too late. I’ll be hungry. I’ll be anxious because everything’s been thrown off a little bit to the left. All because I forgot my Triscuits.
Triscuits, you complete me.
