An Ode to Coffee

Coffee, oh coffee. How I love thee.

The first sip of the morning brings me glee,

while the last makes those feelings flee.

If it weren’t for you, I’d have a lot more money

to spend on things like water, milk, and honey.

But alas, my sweet, there can be no other.

I love you as much as I do my own mother.

You wake me when I’m tired.

You warm me when I’m cold.

I’ll be drinking you forever,

until my bones are achy and old.

But forever, for eternity

my love will be unrequited.

My feelings will be an exercise in futility.

Because you are not alive, you are only a drink.

Now get in my belly and help my brain think.
